The Twenty-sixth of a Dozen Verses

.

[Photo taken on Saturday, August 13, 2005, at the house of my Uncle Ren's friends Noah and Mimi Duot & family. With me in the picture is the daughter of the couple, Mimosa, the little girl I recently wrote about when she fell from a bicycle, causing her liver to rupture. Luckily, a few days at a hospital, Health Sciences Centre, and she had recuperated quickly. Mimosa is now back to her usual lively self.]

(August 2005 poems)

Another series of short poems of three eight-syllable lines (8-8-8) with the rhyme pattern a, b, a:

Ginalit n’yo ko nang lubos;
Niyurakan, pagkatao.
Di pa tapos pagtutuos!

Kahit nasaan ka pa man,
Kasama mo ako, sinta.
’ding-hindi kita iiwan.

Kahit hindi ka marunong
Kumanta at magsayaw,
hon;
Sa kama, tayo’y gugulong.

Boses mo sa telepono,
Pati paghinga’t pagbulóng,
Melodya sa aking puso.

Sana ang aking gitara
Ay makapiling muli, nang
Bagong kanta’y makalikha.

Sa lahat ng instrumento,
Pinakagusto ko’y b'yulin—
Napakalambing ng tono.

Mangyari ngang pakisabi:
Sa mundong ginagalawan,
Ano ba ang aking silbi?

Wala na namang magawa
Kundi tumitig sa dingding.
Utak ko’y magang-maga na.

Kahit ano pa’ng sabihin,
Wala nang makapipigil
Sa ating mga mithiin.

Ampait ng kapalaran,
Parang pumutok na apdo.
Palimos ng kalayaan.

Buhay ko’y parang bituka,

Mahaba’t masalimuot;
Ngunit tulóy sa pagpigà.

Hangin ka ng aking bagà;
Dugo at tibok ng pusò;
Kalám ng aking sikmurà.
