Another series of waluwaluwaló – short poems of three eight-syllable lines (8-8-8) with the rhyme pattern a, b, a.

I dedicate this dozen of verses to my childhood friends many of whom I've long lost contact with: specially to Rommel Navarias, Roderick Periodico, Lilibeth Cuangco; Rembrandt Santos; brothers Joel, Aldrin, and Jonathan Merilles; Maxie Evangelista; siblings Joan, Dennis, and Henry Miranda.

Paggunita sa Nakalipas (Ikalawang Yugto, 1970s)

Ako ay lakíng Makati,
Barangay Pio del Pilar…
K’musta na kaya si Maxie?

Dahil bigla kang lumiham,
Nagulat ako, Lilibeth.
H’wag ka nang mag-agam-agam.

S’yempre kilala pa kita—
Ang dati kong kapitbahay
Na bihirang magsalita.

Takót ka pala sa akin
(Dahil iba ’ko manamit)
Kaya hindi mo ’ko pansin.

Nagkakilala rin tayo
Matapos dal’wang dekada.
’buti’t maayos buhay mo.

Si Bebang ang laging una
T’wing kami’y naghahabulan.
Ako nama'y pangalawa.

Joel, ’alala mo pa ba
Nu’ng si *K’ruga'y makaalpas;
Lahat tayo'y nataranta?

“Ang pangalan ko’y Roderick,
Apelyido’y Periodico…”
Ako ay napahagikgik.

Oo, kilala ko kayo—
Ikaw, si Dennis, at Henry
—Mga dati kong kalaro.

Madalas kami sa inyo—
(Tandang-tanda ko pa iyon)
Mga kapatid ko’t ako.

Nasa’n ka na kaya ngayon,
Rommel Navarias, kaýbigan
Kong taga–F.B. Harrison?

Ba’t ang sarap gunitain—
Mga alaalang musmos?
'lika't ating sariwain.

*K'ruga was the name of the pet monkey we used to own, back in the late '70s through the early '80s.
